Science surpasses gods in amputee care

I found this article today, about a pretty exciting breakthrough in prosthetic hands. Scientists have developed a feedback mechanism which allows the amputee's brain to perceive a sense of touch when handling objects.

Now we know that gods are widely credited with healing humans from illness, but they seem to be quite incapable of healing amputees. No matter how much prayer a person makes and receives, their limbs just never grow back. It seems that the gods can only heal afflictions which the body would be capable of healing by itself, which leaves us in a position to reject the idea of a supernatural contribution to any healing that occurs.

With the technology described in the article, humans have now completely left the gods in our dust regarding the help we can provide for amputees. Would any of you religious-healing supporters like a re-match?

You can read my previous post on this subject here. I'll repeat my favourite part of that post here:

If the religious people object, I ask them, "Why is it that we have to seek such treatments?" It's because, despite promises of healing from you, your cult, your polygamous pedophile cult leader, and your imaginary friend, these people are not being healed in any other way! Despite all of your prayers, nothing is happening! If you want us to stop this research, tell your worthless, apathetic god to get off its lazy ass and start healing these people! Tell it to do something useful and productive for once in its fricking existence! Something tells me nothing will happen, despite all of your pleading. I know why, do you?

So yes yeah for science. Guess what? That comes from a thiest. Ever hear of NOMA? Look it up, its a real good idee

sorry meant idea

Get over yourself. You all love science because without it you would be just as barbaric as the people of biblical times.
NOMA is not going to work as long as religions have permitted sects which take an anti-evidence stance to the origins of the universe and life, and strike out against birth control, genetics and robotology, et cetera.
And the only time that's going to happen is when we win and religion is gone.
And anyway you broke NOMA by commenting on a scientific point by referencing your theism. If you can't make a comment while leaving your religion out, your not a practitioner of what you preach (big surprise).
The only reason you even brought that up is because you can see your religion crumbling under an intensifying assault of proof, and you don't want to lose any more ground.
No chance.

And of course this is a real kick in the teeth for those people who believe that we can't make living machines. We're one step closer now.
That also means that we're one step closer to the revolution:S

I will disagree that I violate NOMA by the mention that I am a thiest. I am capable of understanding science and faith both. Yes I know, go ahead roll your eyes and think (with pavlovian regularity) "he doesn't get it." Wrong, I do get it. I gave up along time ago even wasting any energy on caring what those like you think. Waste of time.

Yet you posted here and tried to convince us that we're wrong. Strange for somebody who gave up caring, isn't it?

By the way dude, would you like to address the actual point here, which is that these gods which are supposed to heal can't do shit for amputees?

Who said anything about convincing you of wrongness? Not me.

So you were posting for your health? Not to try to get a correct opinion out there for people like us? And dude, you even came back again to check on the thread. Yeah sure, you don't care. Can't expect much clearer thinking from a "thiest", now can we?

Again, do you have any comment on the point of the post?

'I will disagree that I violate NOMA by the mention that I am a thiest.'
This is a theist's argument, as I made a point and tried to supply speculative evidence for it(that you have a theistic core and so cannot stop it interfering with your approach to everything.) while you just disagree but don't try to refute the point.

'I am capable of understanding science and faith both.' Understanding and embracing are very different. Everyone can understand some things without embracing them, and some can't, like how I understand chritianity's theory of creation but cannot embrace the putrid fallacy.

'Yes I know, go ahead roll your eyes and think (with pavlovian regularity) "he doesn't get it."'
You insinuate that there is no though process behind my argument, and while I reflexively distrusted you from the word 'theist,' it's pretty obvious from these text walls that I've though about what I'm saying.

'Wrong, I do get it.'
Again, I have provided(speculative) evidence against this, and you come back with another theist's retort.
'I gave up along time ago even wasting any energy on caring what those like you think. Waste of time.'
The intelligent youth of today, humanity of tomorrow? Damn, that's just sad.

'Who said anything about convincing you of wrongness? Not me.',
yet you did say 'Wrong, I do get it.',
which is contrary evidence and shows that you are very confused or a damn bad liar.

I guess you won't have a point just because Admin has dealt such a strong blow.

I give up, you are all smarterer than me because you realized God was a myth and poor me I cower in ignorance. FAH!

You admit God is a myth yet claim to be a theist? Yes, you are cowering in ignorance.
And yes, I am smarter than you.

So this is the second time that he says he's given up. Will he be back?

He never did address the point. It is a solid point. I just wish I could take credit for being the first person to think of the amputee thing.

hello avsn,

No need to cower, I have a little story for you.

did you know that some amphibians do grow back severed limbs?

For theists like you these are excellent news because it PROVES that a toad-like-god is REAL and that it actually listens to croaks... err, I meant prayers.

Just like any other deity with some self-respect, this cold-blooded god sent his only tadpole to a swamp only to grow into a delusional messiah frog, who then had its legs amputated deep fried and eaten by a mob of hungry frenchmen, although miraculously to them it tasted exactly like chicken. (my guess is that the tadpole wanted to show off how powerful and mighty it really was, despite the fact that it was left crippled).

Eventually, after about three months, the fcked over tadpole naturally regrew his legs and everybody rejoiceth... for they had the frying pan ready.

Thus, a lesson remains for all theists: you better start croaking and worshipping thy Kermitness, for it is proven that ONLY THROUGH IT shall you grow your slimy little legs back.

THE END

ps - avsn, I know you became enthralled with the Frogspels, so next week I promise to tell you the stories from the Frogxodus. You will go apesht about it.
